Information Beacon

VK6RIB

Ham College’s own beacon, VK6RIB, is now licenced and is operating in the beacon segment of the 2 meter band utilising a frequency of 145.575MHz.

Power output from the beacon is 5W and its purpose is the provision of crucial information to the local ham fraternity and visiting hams alike. It is anticipated from it’s location in the Perth Hills that it will provide good coverage of the Coastal Plain from Rockingham to Joondalup.

The beacon provides such information as local club news, club contacts, ham calendar, repeats of the Sunday morning WIA News broadcast and News-West and of course Ham College course and exam information.  Any club or individual wishing to have an item placed on the beacon should send an mp3 or wave file to the content manager.  The content manager is Neil, VK6BDO, who can be contacted on 9457 0881 or email to vk6bdo@wia.org.au

Any signal reports should be sent to the content manager including the time, location and any comments.

Many thanks go to Duncan (VK6GHZ) and Doug (VK6DB) for their efforts to date in bringing this project on-line. A special thanks goes to Bob (VK6RX) for providing expert technical advice and the donation of his time to ensure the beacon is fully calibrated to spec.

73’s, from Ham College.
